The Zn complexes bis(acetylacetonato-kappa O-2,O')bis{4'-[4-(methylsulfanyl) phenyl]-4,2':6',4 ''-terpyridine-kappa N-1}zinc(II), [Zn(C5H7O2) (2)(C22H17N3S)(2)], (I), and {mu-4'-[4-(methylsulfanyl)phenyl]4,2': 6',4 ''-terpyridine-kappa N-2(1):N-1 ''} bis[bis(acetylacetonato-kappa O-2,O')zinc(II)], [Zn-2(C5H7O2)(4)(C22H17N3S)], (II), are discrete entities with different nuclearities. Compound (I) consists of two centrosymmetrically related monodentate 4'-[4-(methylsulfanyl) phenyl]-4,2':6',4 ''-terpyridine (L1) ligands binding to one Zn II atom sitting on an inversion centre and two centrosymmetrically related chelating acetylacetonate (acac) groups which bind via carbonyl O-atom donors, giving an N2O4 octahedral environment for Zn II. Compound (II), however, consists of a bis-monodentate L1 ligand bridging two Zn II atoms from two different Zn(acac) 2 fragments. Intra-and intermolecular interactions are weak, mainly of the CH center dot center dot center dot pi and pi-pi types, mediating similar layered structures. In contrast to related structures in the literature, sulfur-mediated nonbonding interactions in (II) do not seem to have any significant influence on the supramolecular structure.#Los complejos de Zn bis(acetilacetonato-kappa O-2,O')bis{4'-[4-(metilsulfanil)fenil]-4,2':6',4 ''-terpiridina-kappa N-1}zinc(II), [Zn(C5H7O2) (2)(C22H17N3S)(2)], (I), y {mu-4'-[4-(metilsulfanil)fenil]4,2': 6',4 ''-terpiridina-kappa N-2(1):N-1 ''} bis[bis(acetilacetonato-kappa O-2,O')zinc(II)], [Zn-2(C5H7O2)(4)(C22H17N3S)], (II), son entidades discretas con diferentes nuclearidades. El compuesto (I) consta de dos ligandos monodentados 4'-[4-(metilsulfanil)fenil]-4,2':6',4''-terpiridina (L1) relacionados por simetría de inversión, que se unen a un átomo de Zn II situado en un centro de inversión, y dos grupos acetilacetonato (acac) quelantes relacionados por simetría de inversión, que se unen mediante donadores de átomos de oxígeno carbonílico, dando lugar a un entorno octaédrico N2O4 para el Zn II. El compuesto (II), en cambio, consta de un ligando bis-monodentado L1 que une dos átomos de Zn II de dos fragmentos Zn(acac)2 diferentes. Las interacciones intra e intermoleculares son débiles, principalmente de tipo CH••••••pi y pi-pi, mediando estructuras laminares similares. A diferencia de estructuras relacionadas en la literatura, las interacciones no enlazantes mediadas por azufre en (II) no parecen tener ninguna influencia significativa en la estructura supramolecular.
