Resumen	The paper examines the Spanish ser/estar distinction and the comprehension of permanent and temporary properties of objects in Spanish speaking children (ages 4 to 12 years) and adults in two complementary experiments. In Experiment 1, we explored the age at which it is possible to talk about a mature distinction of ser/estar with adjective (ser is associated with permanent properties and estar with temporary properties of objects). In Experiment 2, we examined whether the distinction ser/estar facilitates performance on an object categorisation task. Results showed that mature comprehension of the ser/estar distinction is not reached as early as previously thought (preadolescence); hence, the influence of this distinction on categorisation occurs rather late. These results bring out new reflections about late interactions between cognition and language.#Este artículo examina la distinción entre ser y estar en español y la comprensión de las propiedades permanentes y temporales de los objetos en niños hispanohablantes (de 4 a 12 años) y adultos, mediante dos experimentos complementarios. En el Experimento 1, exploramos la edad a la que es posible hablar de una distinción madura entre ser y estar con el adjetivo (ser se asocia con propiedades permanentes y estar con propiedades temporales de los objetos). En el Experimento 2, examinamos si la distinción ser/estar facilita el desempeño en una tarea de categorización de objetos. Los resultados mostraron que la comprensión madura de la distinción ser/estar no se alcanza tan pronto como se pensaba (preadolescencia); por lo tanto, la influencia de esta distinción en la categorización se produce bastante tarde. Estos resultados aportan nuevas reflexiones sobre las interacciones tardías entre cognición y lenguaje.
