Resumen	This study analyzes existing concepts used to describe process modernization, including industrial revolutions and Industry 3.0, Industry 4.0, and Industry 5.0, here collectively referred to as the Sequential Industrial Modernization Framework. A simple industrial scenario was considered to evaluate whether current conceptual foundations could answer key questions regarding process classification and technological definitions. Surprisingly, the findings revealed that the industrial revolutions and Industry 3.0, Industry 4.0, and Industry 5.0 concepts fail to provide consistent answers, as different authors assign varying dates and technologies to each stage without offering clear definitions and explanations. These results highlight the need to critically reassess and improve the theoretical foundations to enhance the internal coherence, reproducibility, and applicability of the concepts in the scientific literature to describe modernization.Este estudio analiza los conceptos existentes para describir la modernización de procesos, incluyendo las revoluciones industriales y las Industrias 3.0, 4.0 y 5.0, denominadas aquí colectivamente Marco de Modernización Industrial Secuencial. Se consideró un escenario industrial sencillo para evaluar si los fundamentos conceptuales actuales podían responder a preguntas clave sobre la clasificación de procesos y las definiciones tecnológicas. Sorprendentemente, los resultados revelaron que las revoluciones industriales y los conceptos de Industrias 3.0, 4.0 y 5.0 no ofrecen respuestas consistentes, ya que diferentes autores asignan fechas y tecnologías variables a cada etapa sin proporcionar definiciones ni explicaciones claras. Estos resultados resaltan la necesidad de reevaluar y mejorar críticamente los fundamentos teóricos para potenciar la coherencia interna, la reproducibilidad y la aplicabilidad de los conceptos en la literatura científica para describir la modernización.
