Resumen	Climate change has intensified abiotic stresses in agriculture, with drought and metal toxicity being major factors, posing a significant threat to global food security. Silicon (Si), a tetravalent metalloid, emerges as a crucial element in enhancing plant resilience against abiotic stresses through its multifaceted roles at different levels in plants. Multiple studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of Si on improving water relations, nutrient uptake, structural integrity of the cell wall, mitigation of metal(loid) toxicity, and enhancement of antioxidant activity. At the molecular level, Si regulates stress-responsive genes, modulates transcription factors such as DREB2A and NAC, and promotes enzymatic pathways involved in reactive oxygen species scavenging, underscoring its pivotal role in plant stress adaptation. This review provides an integrated overview of Si uptake, transport, and deposition, highlighting its physiological and molecular mechanisms in water stress adaptation, root morphology, and detoxification of metal(loid) in plant tissues. Furthermore, the ability of Si to induce the expression of antioxidant enzymes and regulate transcriptional networks associated with osmotic and oxidative stress provides plants with a robust molecular framework for resilience. Here we highlight the potential of Si as a central tool for sustainable agriculture, particularly under abiotic stress conditions such as drought and metal(loid) toxicity. Silicon plays a crucial role in enhancing plant resilience against abiotic stresses through modulation of physiological and molecular responses, particularly under drought and metal(loid) toxicity, and emerges as a potential tool for sustainable agriculture.El cambio climático ha intensificado el estrés abiótico en la agricultura, siendo la sequía y la toxicidad por metales factores importantes que representan una amenaza significativa para la seguridad alimentaria mundial. El silicio (Si), un metaloide tetravalente, emerge como un elemento crucial para mejorar la resiliencia de las plantas frente al estrés abiótico gracias a sus múltiples funciones en diferentes niveles de las plantas. Numerosos estudios han demostrado los efectos beneficiosos del Si en la mejora de las relaciones hídricas, la absorción de nutrientes, la integridad estructural de la pared celular, la mitigación de la toxicidad por metaloides y el aumento de la actividad antioxidante. A nivel molecular, el Si regula los genes que responden al estrés, modula factores de transcripción como DREB2A y NAC, y promueve vías enzimáticas implicadas en la eliminación de especies reactivas de oxígeno, lo que subraya su papel fundamental en la adaptación de las plantas al estrés. Esta revisión proporciona una visión general integrada de la absorción, el transporte y la deposición de Si, destacando sus mecanismos fisiológicos y moleculares en la adaptación al estrés hídrico, la morfología de la raíz y la desintoxicación de metaloides en los tejidos vegetales. Además, la capacidad del silicio para inducir la expresión de enzimas antioxidantes y regular las redes transcripcionales asociadas al estrés osmótico y oxidativo proporciona a las plantas un marco molecular robusto para la resiliencia. En este trabajo, destacamos el potencial del silicio como herramienta fundamental para la agricultura sostenible, especialmente en condiciones de estrés abiótico como la sequía y la toxicidad por metales y metaloides. El silicio desempeña un papel crucial en el aumento de la resiliencia de las plantas frente a los estreses abióticos mediante la modulación de las respuestas fisiológicas y moleculares, particularmente en condiciones de sequía y toxicidad por metales y metaloides, y se perfila como una herramienta potencial para la agricultura sostenible.
